PLENARY SPEAKERS
Ken Hyland is Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the Centre for Applied English Studies at the University of Hong Kong. He was previously a professor at the University of London and has taught in Africa, Asia and Europe. He is best known for his research into writing and academic discourse, having published over 200 articles and 25 books on these topics. His most recent books include Academic Publishing (Oxford University Press, 2015), The Handbook of EAP (edited with Philip Shaw, Routledge, 2016), Academic Written English (Shanghai Foreign Language Press, 2014), Disciplinary Identity (Cambridge University Press, 2012), and Innovation and Change in Language Education (edited with Lillian Wong , Routledge, 2013.). He is founding co-editor of the Journal of English for Academic Purposes and was co-editor of Applied Linguistics. Ken is an Honorary professor at Warwick University and a Foundation Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities.

Christian Puren is professor emeritus at the Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne and honorary president of the CMA (French: Association française des Professeurs Langues Vivantes) and GERES (French: Groupe d'Étude et de Recherche en Espagnol de Spécialité). He is doctor of Hispanic Studies from the University of Toulouse II in France, magister in Spanish, and bachelor in Modern Literature and Spanish. In 1992, he was promoted to "Professeur des Universités" (in Romance Languages and Literatures, Spanish, Section 14) at the University Institute of Teacher Training in Paris. In 2002, he moved to the 7th section (in Language Sciences) after changing his position to "Professeur des Universités" at Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne. In this university, he founded and directed the Centre d'Étude en Didactique Comparée des Langues et des Cultures (CEDICLEC) (Center for the Study of Languages and Culture Teaching). Between 1998 and 2001, Christian Puren was "Directeur de projet" (scientific head) of the Common European Agenda LINGUA-A on differentiated pedagogy with the participation of associations of language teachers from 11 countries of the European Union. In this project, he was the coordinator and co-author of the "Observation and Conception Guide of Differentiated Teaching Sequences in Language Classes". He has recently worked also as an educational adviser to various textbooks for teaching Spanish and French as foreign languages. He is currently member of academic / scientific committees of various French and foreign magazines devoted to the teaching of languages and cultures. José Aldemar Álvarez V. is a professor of applied linguistics and second language acquisition and teaching at the School of Language Sciences at Universidad del Valle, Colombia. He holds a BEd in Spanish-English (Universidad Pedagógica), an MA degree in Applied Linguistics to TEFL (Universidad Distrital), an MA degree in Hispanic Linguistics (Instituto Caro y Cuervo), and MA and PhD degree in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching from the University of Arizona. He has published in the areas of discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, language policy, language teaching approaches, teacher education, and intercultural communication. His latest publications include “Language views on social networking sites for language learning: The case of Busuu” (Computer Assisted language Learning, 2015) and a co-edited book titled Critical Views on Teaching and Learning English Around the Globe (Information Age, upcoming). Currently, he is researching and writing about social networking sites for language learning from a multimodal social semiotic perspective.

She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics in the area of Bilingual Education from Lancaster University, U.K. Her research interests include bilingual classroom interaction, the construction of bilingual curricula and processes of empowerment, and bilingual teacher development. She is the author of a number of books and articles in the area of bilingualism and bilingual education both in Spanish and English.

Tim Marr is a British academic in the field of language teaching and applied linguistics. Dr. Marr has taught languages over 25 years and has researched language and sociolinguistic issues in different countries, including Thailand, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Cuba, Vietnam, India, Uzbekistan, and Peru. His experience in teacher training and professional development includes 15 years as director of the Masters Program in ELT and Applied Linguistics at London Metropolitan University. He is currently co-director of the consultancy London Language Advisors. Dr Marr earned his bachelor's degree in languages and linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, the professional title of Professor in ELT at the University of London, his MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Sheffield, and his doctorate in sociolinguistics at the University of Liverpool. His first book, Why Do Linguistics? was published in 2015 by Bloomsbury Publishing House.

Adriana González is a professor at the School of Languages of the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia. She holds a doctoral degree in Linguistics from State University of New York at Stony Brook and a Masters in Language Sciences from the Université de Nancy II (France). She teaches in the undergraduate and the graduate programs in Foreign Language Teacher Education. Her areas of research, presentations and publications include foreign language teachers’ professional development, language policies and SLA. She belongs to the editorial committees of the journals PROFILE, IKALA, HOW and CALJ. She is currently the director of the Office of International Affairs at Universidad de Antioquia.
